Who hasn’t heard of it? A series of approved dance steps are combined with acrobatic and creative, individual dance moves. Choreographies are created to funk, soul and rap music.
Breakdance is an acrobatic dance style that originated in the Puerto Rican and black city areas of New York during the late seventies. Breakdance started to develop parallel to rap and was used as a physical form to express against social protest. Ground level turn movements, mechanical-like twitching and different acrobatic stunts are very common for breakdance. At the beginning of the eighties, breakdance spread out as street culture across the city boundaries of New York. Breakdance also became popular from the video clips of worldwide rap singers.
